LICENSED MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST
HI, I'm Norman Levitan
A culturally responsive approach. Norman practices from a place of cultural humility, recognizing that identity, culture, faith, family expectations, and lived experience of the world shape a person’s story in ways that can’t be separated from their mental health. He does not ask clients to explain or justify their experiences including experiences of racism, discrimination, or being the “first” or “only” in a space. He is committed to ongoing learning, actively seeks feedback about how he shows up, and welcomes clients from all racial, ethnic, cultural, faith, and LGBTQIA+ communities as a longtime affirming ally.
How Norman works. Trained in Family Systems Theory, Norman looks at the whole family the sum of its parts, not simply the individuals within it. Often the distress a person carries isn’t a flaw inside them; it’s a reasonable response to a family dynamic, an inherited pattern, or a survival strategy that once made perfect sense. Norman helps clients trace where those patterns came from, understand the roles they’ve been asked to play, and decide which ones they want to keep and which they’re ready to set down. This work is especially meaningful for:
Adults navigating intergenerational patterns, family loyalty, and cultural expectations
Couples working through communication breakdowns, trust, and conflict
Families in transition blending, separating, launching young adults, or caring for aging parents
First-generation and immigrant-family dynamics
Men who were never given permission to name what they feel
LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, and chosen families
Anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, boundary-setting, and self-worth
What sessions feel like. Direct but never harsh. Collaborative, practical, and paced by you. Norman is at his best helping people move through obstacles, name their strengths out loud, and use those strengths on purpose. You set the goals; he helps you build the map.
You have gotten yourself through hard things before often without support, and often without a clear path. Norman’s role is to help you pick your head up, get your footing, and move toward what you want, with your own determination and drive doing the heavy lifting.
Norman offers in-person sessions in Sunrise Florida and tele-health throughout Florida and Georgia. He is currently accepting new clients and offers a free 15-minute consultations.
